Latest News: Romulus Announces $34.5 million FCA US Parts Distribution Center

October 31, 2016—Romulus, MI- The City of Romulus has announced a new $34.5 million investment from FCA US LCC and InSite Real Estate LLC for a new Mopar Parts Distribution Center (PDC), creating over 100 new jobs in the city. This week, Romulus approved an Industrial Facilities Tax abatement for the facility, allowing for 50% relief on real property taxes for a 7-year period. FCA US will invest approximately $10.4 million machinery, equipment and building improvements at the facility.

The PDC will handle approximately 45 million parts annually. Preliminary construction on the 500,000 square foot facility has already begun, with a planned opening in the third quarter of 2017.

“This facility is perfectly suited for Romulus and we are thrilled FCA is investing in our community,” said Romulus Mayor Leroy Burcroff. “We are proud to bring these new jobs and investment dollars to Romulus by positioning ourselves as a business friendly community.”

The Romulus distribution center will accept more than 30 inbound trailers and dispatch 40 outbound trailers daily, with two shifts operating the facility. According to FCA, “the facility will be launched under FCA World Class Logistics methodology, which establishes a synchronized supply chain that progressively eliminates waste through an approach of continuous improvement.”

“The Detroit Region Aerotropolis provides the ideal location for this project. Our transportation assets continue to attract transportation, distribution, and logistics investment and jobs to this region.” said Tim Keyes, Director of Economic Development for the City of Romulus, “Cost competitive real estate and access to the freeway system are paramount, and these are two assets of the Aerotropolis that make projects like this happen.”

This is the second Mopar PDC that FCA is adding in the U.S., with a center already being constructed in Winchester, Virginia. According to FCA, the investment “does not include anticipated ancillary economic opportunities for local businesses tapped to provide services such as landscaping, waste removal, building maintenance and more.”
